International Nath Order

Our synthesis of the Adinath and Uttara Kaula streams as a spiritual path.

Karma

Karma

July 7, 2004

I think karma affects all people, things and ideas. The good news is that people do have, to a greater or lesser degree, free will. Karma, by definition, means result of doing. For example: Someone insults you. You could kill them for the transgression. You could also ignore them. These are two very different actions in response to the same “cause, stimuli or act.” Break the cycle of cause and knee-jerk response and you begin to break the cycle and perpetuation of the most insane karmas.

Perhaps we “didn’t start the fire,” but it is not possible to put it out if we keep throwing gasoline on it. You will never know “who” started it, so forget about trying to figure it out and attend to the more important.

Not all of our actions are predestined. We have “free will” to the degree that we are able to manifest it. No more, no less. The very idea of Magick is to manifest free will. There is little wisdom in perpetuating negative karmas, because they manifest as negative effects.

The idea of separate individuality and self interest is the root of Ego. This cuts us off from being able to perceive Reality. Liberation is only the state of absence of that which binds us. As Spirit particles, we are not bound. As individual bodies and individual personalities we are bound.

I don’t think anyone will begin to appreciate “why” the Big Kahuna, God, Atman, Spirit created the worlds and individuals unless we embrace a sense of humor which is as potentially dark as Creation itself. Just beyond the suffering and carnage, if you listen carefully you may hear the laugh track. The dark humor of the Divine which is so difficult to Understand. A mirror may help, or meditation. Whatever unhooks us from the self contraction of our limited view and Being. One goes “back to the Kingdom”, by going back to the Kingdom. Be happy if you make it for a moment. With correct exertion or at least correct understanding, you might make the state of Grace a more and more perpetual feature of your “individual karma” or even better, your very Being.
