Nath Avadhut of Uttarkashi · First Indian guru of Shri Gurudev Mahendranath
Shri Sadguru Lokanath was a Nath guru and Avadhut of Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand. In 1953 he gave Shri Gurudev Mahendranath sannyas diksha into the Adinath Sampradaya and the name Mahendranath. Mahendranath arrived in India on Guru Purnima of that year.
He taught the science of the divine only to disciples he chose. He wanted them alone, in lonely places, until the goal. He wrote nothing and sought no public. There is no known photograph.
That diksha was the sadhu initiation of the Adinath seat. Mahendranath became its last guru. He would not give it in the West. The International Nath Order is a householder transmission. It is not Lokanath’s cave-rule under another name.
He is not Lokanath Mahanath, the Western initiate later known in the British section of the Order. The Avadhut of Uttarkashi is this page.
In The Telluric Tablet Mahendranath gives Lokanath’s charge: the name Mahendra, the Nath diksha, and the continuance of Shiva’s Naths as Adinaths. In The Ainigmatikos he names Lokanath as his first Indian guru.
