We are dedicated to fostering awakening, equanimity and self-realization through disciplined practice (sadhana) and conformation—aligning your actions and practices with the INO’s teachings, values, and disciplines.

Levels of Engagement with the INO
Friend
Anyone interested in INO wisdom and processes presented by the Order and its vetted agents. Friends can read the Scrolls, study INO website resources, join the monthly Virtual Kula Discourse, and attend public events. No application required. This level can last months, years, or a lifetime.
Applicant
Those seeking a direct relationship with the Order. Submit the petition form below to begin a personalized conversation with a Gatekeeper (response within 10 days). This exploratory phase typically takes 1–3 months.
Petitioner
Approved applicants who commit to dedicated practice under a Guide. This involves significant daily effort over 1–3+ years (see requirements below). Only sincere seekers are allowed to enter this stage.
Aspirant
Those who have fulfilled Petitioner requirements, who remain in good standing, and continue active practice toward possible initiation (not guaranteed).
Initiate
The core membership of the Order. Initiation connects the prepared aspirant to the INO’s spiritual lineage and community of sovereigns.

Getting Started
Who is suitable for participation in the International Nath Order?
The INO unites individuals dedicated to spiritual growth and personal attainment within INO guidelines. It is for those inspired to embrace experiential Yoga — harnessing INO wisdom with your intuition, imagination, and active participation.
Does the International Nath Order expect money from interested persons?
No fees are required for your personal studies of the INO. Donations to the Order are always welcome as voluntary support, but never required. Individual teachers may request fair compensation for their personal time and guidance as a direct energy exchange between teacher and motivated individual.
Do I need prior knowledge or experience?
No prior knowledge or experience is required to join the INO. The INO welcomes individuals at all levels of development who have a sincere interest in spiritual growth and personal attainment within INO guidelines. You’ll be offered guidance tailored to your unique journey, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced practitioner.

What are the aims and goals?
To enjoy peace, freedom, and happiness in this life while working towards spiritual progress and attainment.
What is Tantra in the INO context?
A pragmatic, experiential path that awakens spiritual energy and connects the individual (Microcosm) to the divine (Macrocosm). It includes meditation, diverse practices and wisdom guidelines.
Does the INO believe in God?
We embrace the Cosmic Spirit in its many forms. Personal interpretation is encouraged; there is no dogma.
Instruction & Inner Structure
Does instruction have rules?
The INO has no rules, superstitions, or dogmas. Teachings are guidelines to help you develop your own understanding. As Shri Gurudev Mahendranath wrote: “Even after receiving initiation… people are not bound to accept anything they wish to disbelieve.”
What is MAGIKOS?
MAGIKOS Magick and Gramarye Initiate Knights of Shambhala, was put into motion in 1989 by Shri Gurudev Mahendranath as the In-group responsible for leadership within the International Nath Order. As an In-group, MAGIKOS is comprised of only those initiates of the INO who have absorbed and mastered the guidelines set forth in the writings and transmissions of Shri Gurudev Mahendranath. Membership is private and by petition. Any initiate may apply.
Initiation & the Petitioner Process
What is the INO initiation (Diksha)?
Initiation is a sacred transmission of spiritual energy from a qualified initiator to the aspirant. It includes sacred ash (vibhuti), a new cryptonym, and a permanent link to the INO lineage. It is the beginning of a transformative process that must be cultivated through intentional personal practice.
What are the basic requirements for petitioner?
Petitioners must:
- Study the Scrolls of Mahendranath and the INO glossary.
- Establish a Zonule — a dedicated practice space with an altar and elemental representations.
- Maintain a Sadhana Journal to record daily practices, submitted quarterly for review.
- Build a daily practice of 60–90 minutes, incorporating mantra, japa, puja, and meditation.
- Complete at least two in-person meetings with their Guide, which may include attending an INO Mela or gathering.
- Subscribe to the Purna Virtual Kula program hosted by Sri Vijayanath.
What is the significance of the in-person meetings with their Guide?
In-person meetings, considered modern pilgrimages, allow direct interaction with the Guide for personalized guidance, knowledge and energy transfer. These can occur at INO events like the INO Mela, if a one-on-one meeting is arranged. In-person meetings are essential for building a relationship and deepening the individual’s practice.
How long does the petitioner process take?
The process generally spans 1–3 years or longer, largely depending on the diligence, karmas, and commitment demonstrated by the petitioner. It begins with a minimum one year period of consistent practice. Completion makes one eligible for consideration as an Aspirant, but initiation is never guaranteed.
What happens if I complete all requirements but am not initiated?
Even if initiation is not granted, the practices and disciplines developed during the petitioner-aspirant process should significantly advance you toward self-realization and spiritual growth. This process provides lifelong benefits that cannot be taken away.
Is initiation mandatory?
No, initiation is not required. An individual may choose to remain a friend of the INO and continue to apply any processes and principles learned for personal growth. Although, the process we have outlined is designed to prepare those who are seeking deeper commitment to the INO path.
Can I share the teachings or practices with others?
No, unless specifically vetted to do so, all parties are asked not to share rituals, techniques, or processes outside the INO. This maintains the integrity of our wisdom base, prevents dilution, and further supports a serious practitioners’ progress. A confidentiality agreement is utilized to ensure that the individual is focused on this path for their own personal edification and not for commercial or external purposes.
What happens after I submit my petition?
After submitting your petition, an INO initiate will review your application and contact you via email within 7-10 days. This begins a dialogue to explore whether or not the INO aligns with your spiritual goals. We will discuss your background, interests, and next steps, which may include further guidance, participation in the Virtual Kula, and potential preparation for initiation. The process is individualized, ensuring clarity and mutual compatibility.

Only Naths or Devis holding a MAGIKOS Charter to Initiate may perform initiation (diksha). No imposed oaths are required. After initiation, you are free to pursue your own progressive path while remaining connected to the community through Melas, retreats, and the Virtual Kula.
