The Sanskrit term Adinath means first or original Lord. It is a name for Shiva, and beyond that name, for the Supreme Reality as the originator of all things.
he Adinath Sampradaya was a sadhu sub-sect of the greater Nath tradition. Its people took sannyas diksha and lived as naked sadhus, often apart from monastic crowds. Shri Gurudev Mahendranath was initiated into this line in 1953 by Shri Sadguru Lokanath, and he was its last guru. He would not give that sannyas diksha in the West. With the birth of the International Nath Order the Indian Adinath sect became defunct. The INO is a householder variant of the Nath stream. It is not the Adinath sadhu seat under another name.
