Vibhuti

Vibhuti

Vibhuti is the Sanskrit word for the sacred ash used in connection with the worship of Shiva. This ash is produced in the sacred fire of the Dhuni and is used to make the mark or tilak of three horizontal lines typically worn by worshipers of Shiva, though this is but one example. Almost every combination of placing the ash can be found. From lines and moons, to a complete covering. In practice, the placement of the ash is very important on two levels. One, is the intention with which the ash is being placed in a specific place. Two, is connection with the Shakti found in correctly produced ash or vibhuti. It is an application for the shower of that grace. Highly useful to settle the mind.
