प्रतिभा pratibhā
Pratibhā is a Sanskrit term denoting vision, insight, intuition, inner understanding, unconditioned knowledge, inner wisdom, awareness, and awakening. It is closer to what Zen calls satori than to full enlightenment or realization.
Within the International Nath Order it is one of three stepping-stones named by Shri Gurudev Mahendranath in The Pathless Path to Immortality: Pratibhā, Sahaja, and Samarasa. He described it as the spiritual illumination attained through yoga discipline (as Patañjali presents it) that enables the disciple to know all else. It is the real divya cakṣus—not so much an eye as a miraculous vision or knowledge that plucks the gems of mystery and wisdom from the Cosmos. It is spontaneous and instantaneous, grows by meditation or contemplation, and is independent of religious pattern. Once attained, it requires no further guidance from a guru.
Do not read Pratibhā as simply another name for the Order’s English triad of Insight, Intuition, and Imagination. Those are modern working terms. Pratibhā is the older Sanskrit faculty they point toward. It is sometimes called Pratibhā-Śakti, the power of illumination.
