Mahasiddha

Mahasiddha

The Sanskrit word Mahasiddha has the meaning of great Siddha or perfected being. This word is used only as a given title to indicate an individual who is perceived to have attained virtually all spiritual perfections.

Historically the Mahasiddha remains an extreme rarity. Tibetan Buddhism recognizes 84 Mahasiddhas and includes among them the Nath saints Gorakshanath and Matsyendranath.
