In the Nath tradition the written word is in itself not sufficient to express the many aspects of our path. While many of our guidelines and principles have been written down, not all experience is expressible in words. Participation in direct experience illuminate the core teachings as no words can.

The intention of the INO was to plant the initiation vibration of the Nath and Kaula currents in new soils and Western sociological conditions. INO Naths are not expected, or even encouraged, to be “Hindu” in any way, nor are they required to renounce anything as a prerequisite for initiation. At the same time, someone who is a “Hindu” could still be eligible for possible initiation.

The five kleshas are five mental patterns or defects which must be understood before real Nath practice can begin. These five non-productive patterns are the cause of all the miseries and afflictions of life. It is one of the goals of Nath practice to learn to identify, control, and ultimately uproot or unwind these patterns.
